Cypress Mountain Olympic Medals

In 2002 Vancouver was granted the bid to host the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and Cypress Mountain became the official Freestyle Ski & Snowboarding Venue for the 2010 Games.

After years of hard preparation and growth, Cypress was able to offer a truly Canadian & Gold medal performance, multiple times during the series of Olympic events hosted on mountain from Feb 12th to the 28th, 2010.

US skier Hannah Kearney won the ladies moguls freestyle skiing gold Saturday, beating Canada's Jennifer Heil, who notched the host country's first medal of these Games, into second place. American Shannon Bahrke took the bronze.

Mogulist Alexandre Bilodeau won Canada's first ever gold on home soil laying down a near-perfect final run at Cypress Mountain. The 2009 overall World Cup champion executed a back full off the top air and a perfect-scoring back iron cross off the bottom air to earn a score of 26.75. Dale Begg-Smith, competing for Australia, took the silver medal. American skier Bryon Wilson claimed the bronze medal.

Mike Robertson won silver in the men's snowboard cross final, up against France's Tony Ramoin (bronze) and Americans Nate Holland and Seth Wescott - who took the gold by a sliver. Canadian Rob Fagan came in fifth.

Snowboard cross athlete Maëlle Ricker has delivered Canada's second gold medal of the 2010 Olympic Games at Cypress Mountain. Ricker, the world's top-ranked World Cup circuit rider coming into the Games, finished Tuesday's race ahead of France's Deborah Anthonioz and Olivia Nobs of Switzerland.

White, who was top-ranked on the World Cup circuit going into the Games, riled crowds in his first run executing huge amplitude, back-to-back double corks, a front-side five, a double hand grab and a backside nine. With a score of 46.8 going into the second final run, White is favoured for a gold medal. Teammate Scott Lago secured the second best score from his first final run, ahead of Finland's Iouri Podladtchikov.

As four skiers sped toward the finish line in the finals, Del Bosco appeared to have the bronze medal wrapped up. But he saw a chance to make a move for second, trimming a final turn a little too tight, going a bit too fast - and flew sideways into a snowy heap. Gold went to Michael Schmid of Switzerland. Andreas Matt of Austria took silver and Norway's Audun Groenvold earned the bronze.

McIvor, the reigning world champion, took the lead in each heat going into the final and beat out Norway's Hedda Bernsten. "This is the most amazing thing, this is the most amazing moment of my entire life," McIvor said immediately following the race. "I was standing in the start gate thinking everything in my life is leading me here."

Kyle Nissen of Calgary flirted with a medal Thursday night but faltered on his second and final jump and settled for fifth place in men’s aerials at the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games. Belarus’s Alexei Grishin won the gold medal with a score of 248.41, edging Jeret Peterson of the U.S., who was second at 247.21. China’s Liu Zhongqing won the bronze with 242.53 points.
